About Lauren Voiers
Lauren Voiers is a self-taught, Cleveland, Ohio-based visual artist and painter, who, at the young age of 19, has established herself as an internationally recognized artist. She combines her rare talent, inventiveness and life experiences to create original artwork that transcends time and cultures, and garners universal appeal.
Recognized as an art prodigy since she was in grade school, Lauren expresses peace and harmony in a chaotic world through the vibrant, abstract blend of images, colors and symbolism. These works are a true reflection of Lauren's life views and experiences, having overcome the challenges of bipolar disorder at a young age to become a distinguished and highly prolific artist. Her interests in music have provided inspiration for her work from a young age.
Lauren's most high-profile work to date, the Peace & Harmony sculpture, in honor of John Lennon, will be unveiled in October 2010, in Liverpool, England. A derivative work of her original Peace and Harmony painting, the Peace & Harmony monument was inspired by Lauren's musical influences, including that of John Lennon and the Beatles. This latest work on the monument has taken her around the world as part of the October 9th unveiling events.
As a mark of the true impact of Lauren's work on Peace & Harmony, John Lennon's son, Julian Lennon, personally requested that she incorporate a white feather within the design of the monument, as a symbol of John Lennon's spirit and of world peace. Julian will be unveiling the monument in observance of the 30th anniversary of his father's death, and what would have been his 70th birthday. The monument will be permanently installed in Liverpool and is expected to become one of the most highly visited tourist attractions in the United Kingdom.
Lauren's Story
Lauren was born on January 7, 1991, in Cleveland, Ohio. Her youth was not unlike those of most young, suburban Cleveland girls, attending St. Raphael's Catholic School and Westlake High School.
Early in life, Lauren showed an intense and highly persistent acumen for drawing with vivid colors on any surface, and using any medium she could. A strong-willed, self-taught artist, she quickly outgrew her paint-by-numbers kits, and began painting wherever and whenever the opportunity presented itself. Her irrepressible creativity and self-expression resulted in all-night painting sessions, where when waking the next morning, her parents would discover their home's walls and carpeting blanketed in artwork.
By the seventh grade, her art teacher had identified Lauren as performing at a college level. During high school she won many state and national art awards, leading to a gold key for an abstract.
Without any professional instruction or study of the great masters, Lauren self-developed two parallel artistic styles. She blended surrealism with cubism in her abstract renderings, while producing American traditional landscapes in oil.
Lauren's interests in music started at an early age, including the introduction to the work of the Beatles by her parents. The Beatles' music and messages of peace and unity have been a source of inspiration for her artwork, and the catalyst for the creation of the painting that the Peace & Harmony Monument is modeled after today.
In 2009, the then 18-year-old art prodigy was commissioned to create a sculptural monument as a gift of peace to the people of Europe. In honor of John Lennon, the monument will be unveiled by Lennon's 47-year-old son Julian in October 2010, as part of the city's two-month season of events to commemorate the former Beatle's 70th birthday and 30th anniversary of his death.
Lauren is completing her 18' monument Peace & Harmony in the summer of 2010, incorporating the white feather within its design after the request from Julian. The monument will be placed in a significant position in Liverpool, the home of John Lennon and the Beatles, where it will act as an alternative to Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park, New York. Jerry Goldman, Managing Director of The Beatles Story museum in Liverpool said, "Watch out for what you see when Britain is promoted in the future, and you will see Lauren's beautiful work of art as a great symbol of Britain, England and Liverpool."
Just the Beginning
Having already achieved major accomplishments at a young age, Lauren is just starting to make her mark on the international art world, with plans of continuing her mission of expressing peace and harmony through her work, and inspiring younger generations to make a difference in the world.
